Emergency Procedures Plan
In case of fire: The fire extinguisher is located in the kitchen on top of the refrigerator. If the fire cannot be put out, adult will lead children out the front door. If the front exit is blocked, the rear dining room door or one of the family room doors will be used. Children are never allowed in the bedrooms upstairs or in the basement. Children will gather in the northwest corner of the yard, near the tall pine tree. Emergency services will be called from one of the nearby neighbors or from the cordless phone, or cell phone. There is a first aid kit in the minivan, along with parent contact information.
In case of severe weather: Adults and children will take shelter in the innermost area of the house, which is behind the heavy sofa in the family room. Everyone will kneel facing the wall until the storm has passed. The radio will be used to monitor the situation.
In case of loss of electrical power: Battery operated radio and flashlights are available in the family room cupboards. Foods such as peanut butter, crackers, and canned fruits and vegetables are available for eating if power outage continues. The fireplace will be used as an emergency heat source if necessary.
In case of loss of water: We have a bottled water service through Hinckley Springs. Bottled water is always available.
In case of serious injury to a child: Parents will be notified. First aid will be administered (I am certified in Pediatric CPR/first aid). Emergency services will be notified if needed, or requested by the parent. First aid will be continued while waiting. Remaining children will be cared for by one of the available backup providers.
Preventative measures will be taken to ensure that accidents are not like to happen. Area utility companies will be contacted if necessary.
